EMTB/MTB Brakes Guide
Brakes are one of the most important components on any mountain or e-MTB, directly affecting control, safety, and confidence on the trail. With so many options — from Shimano’s Ice Tech rotors to SRAM’s Ultimate lineup — choosing the right setup can feel overwhelming in recent years, While Shimano and SRAM remain the dominant brake choices for bike manufacturers, appearing on the majority of high-end MTB and e-MTB models, a few other brands have also started to make inroads.
Shimano
Shimano is often regarded as one of the best part manufacturers, they are well known for their reliability, consistent performance and wide availability.
Key technologies:
- Ice tech - Multi-layer rotor construction for better heat dissipation, this helps reduce brake fade and improves controls.
- Freeza tech - Aluminium fins with heat dissipating paint that can lower the surface temperature by up to 150°C
Sram
SRAM has quite a large line up of brakes and we will see a few main variations of these separated into different specifications of these.
