Pedal into the New Year with confidence!
1- Ensure you keep your e-bike clean
Ensure you regularly clean your electric mountain bike, we recommend using a hose pipe and MTB/EMTB -specific cleaning products to protect against corrosion. Avoid using a jet wash when cleaning an EMTB to protect and maintain the health of bearing seals and electronics.
We have a range of cleaning products available here
2 - Lube your chain
Ensure your e-MTB chain is cleaned and lubed using the correct lubricant for your weather conditions to maintain the lifespan of your drivetrain. For winter months a wet lubricant is usually the best to apply available here. However refer to your local trail conditions.
3 - Look out for tyre wear
Keep track of tyre wear and debris, to ensure you have maximum grip and traction through the wet winter months. Also ensure you are running the correct tyre for your trail conditions on your e-MTB, check out our range here.
4- Check your bolts
Ensure you regularly use a torque wrench to torque up bolts to the correct setting, please refer to your manufactures handbook for correct torque settings. Checking and torquing bolts on your E-MTB protects both the components on your electric mountain bike from damage and the rider from component failure.
5 - Check your tyre pressure
The correct tyre pressure is essential to gain traction on the trail, heavier riders might find a higher tyre pressure such as 30 psi provides the optimal pressure, whilst lighter riders might want to lower pressure to 20 psi on an EMTB.
6 - Storing your electric mountain bike
An EMTB should be stored clean and dry in a cool environment between 10 to 20°C, with the battery level between 30-60%. To maintain the maximum lifespan of your e-bike.
7 - Charging your electric mountain bike
Avoid Full Discharge: In colder months, avoid letting your electric mountain bike battery completely discharge, as this puts more stress on the cells and reduces overall capacity. Keep the battery charged above 30% for optimal longevity. Whilst charging the battery ensure the surrounding temperatures does not fall below 10°C to prevent damage to the battery and maintain the lifespan of your EMTB battery.
8 - Look out for water to prevent damage
Take care when getting your bike wet, consider drying your electric mountain bike before plugging into a charger and ensure there is no water near any terminals.
9 - Preventing lock seizure
Locks can freeze solid in the cold, including the lock that secures your battery to the e-MTB. Regularly removing the battery and storing it somewhere warmer should be enough to stop this lock seizing.
10 - Check your brake pads!
Over time, frequent braking causes brake pads to wear down. This wear poses a safety risk, as worn brake pads reduce braking performance. Riding with deteriorated brake pads can also harm other components of the braking system, like the rotor. Slippery winter conditions often lead to increased braking, making it essential to stay vigilant and regularly check your brake pads on your E-MTB and change them if needed.
