Electric mountain bike display guide

An electric mountain bike display is an on board computer that provides riders with crucial information such as battery life, current speed and distance travelled, as a minimum. There are displays out there that go a step further and give stats such as cadence, motor output, rider output figures as well as GPS mapping. Whether you choose simple and subtle or go for a display with more information than you can shake a stick at, there's no doubt that a display is a superb piece of technology that will support you in getting the most out of your riding experience.

When choosing a display, compatibility is important. For some brands only one display is available, however, for the likes of Bosch you have a number of displays to choose from if you are running a Smart System. It is important to consider how much you value constant access to metrics and statistics whilst you are riding and what size of display you want to use. If you are into the numbers then it is definitely worth including a display on your bike. If you just want to get out and ride then all the electric bikes we retail have at least your current charge status and assistance mode clearly indicated on the controller. Furthermore all of our e-bike brands have their own app which you can access ride data from your ride through your mobile phone regardless of whether or not you use a display.

Bosch Displays

Bosch retail a vast array of on board computers, the displays and pairing controllers are very well integrated. All Bosch electric bikes can be ridden without a display because these systems feature a backup light system either fitted to the top tube or the controller, with lights indicating both the current charge state and assistance mode you are currently in.

Bosch products are all smart phone compatible through the Bosch Flow app where you can view extra riding data and make adjustments to your electric bikes assistance modes.

Bosch Removable Displays

Kiox 300/500

Kiox displays offer a range of features, which are easy to read and navigate, featuring detailed fitness data, intuitive electric bike information and excellent data sharing capability as well as GPS.

The Bosch Kiox display can be removed by twisting the display from the mounting plate and put aside for safe keeping. This is particularly handy if you are changing a tyre or nipping into the shop for supplies.

A Kiox 500 offers a 2.8-inch display, 40 percent larger than Kiox 300 (2-inch display).

Shimano

Shimano Displays feature lots of adaptability, with the ability to also connect third party displays such as Garmin systems if you choose, through Shimano’s Steps system. All Shimano displays are connectable via bluetooth to the Shimano E Tube app to access further data and adjust settings. The range is very compact and robust with all displays sitting inside the handlebars and centrally placed to avoid your focus being taken away from your travelling direction. You can also connect your heart rate monitor to the E-Tube ride app via bluetooth, this will then be paired to the screen allowing you to track and monitor your BPM whilst on the bike. Not all displays are compatible with all bikes so it is worth checking before making a purchase.

The DJI Avinox display is a 2 inch, full colour, OLED touch screen display with a peak brightness of 800 units, visible even in direct sunlight. The system is fully integrated with the Avinox app to allow you to customise the display interface. The touchscreen functionality works seamlessly and can be used while wearing gloves too. This display is packed with features including: GPS sensor, barometer, gyroscopic sensors and many connectivity options like ANT+ and bluetooth 5.1. These features allow you to precisely track rides and the 8GB of internal memory means that you can store data here or in the matching app. By linking the display with a chest strap device you can also access various metrics such as heart rate and calorie consumption.

Like other systems there is an app that works alongside the display. The DJI app is easy to use and intuitive to navigate and thanks to the GPS it means that you can always locate your bike with your smartphone acting like a key and allowing you to disable motor functions.
