What Is Cycle To Work & How Do I Save Money?
Cycle To Work is a government initiative which offers the most cost-effective way to purchase a new bike and or equipment. The scheme is run through participating employers, meaning you do not have to pay tax or national insurance on these products – saving you up to 43%! This reduced cost is then simply deducted out of your payslip.
An up-to-date overview of rates of tax can be seen on the Government's website. However, to save you time we can confirm that normal rates of tax are 33% for a lower rate taxpayer and 43% for a higher rate taxpayer. This means that most scheme participants save between 33-43% on the cost of their bike and/or accessories during their initial hire period. This is how you save:
What should I do first?
It is very important that you follow these steps to avoid disappointment.
Step One – Contact your HR Department or your Accountant to check you are eligible to access a voucher and discuss any questions you have with them about how they operate the scheme at your workplace.
Step Two – Pre Order your chosen bike on our website with a £200 Deposit (here). We highly recommend you do this for both in stock bikes and bikes that have a future availability date as these dates can change regularly as other customers place pre orders. This initial deposit will be refunded to you once your voucher is redeemed but it is imperative you Pre Order first before raising a voucher to avoid the bike, selling out whilst you are in the process.
Step Three – MTB Monster will email you an order confirmation. At this point you need to raise a voucher through your employer to cover the cost of the bike. For in stock bikes, we are happy to hold these for a short period of time whilst your voucher is being processed. For bikes with a future availability date, we will take the voucher but will not redeem the voucher and access the funds until your bike comes into stock. We ask that you send the voucher in once you have it so that we can ensure all paperwork is up to date in time for your bike arriving.
Step Four – MTB Monster will update you regularly on your order via email and are available on the phone during opening hours to answer any questions 01254 959345 (option 1). Once the bike is available and we have your voucher we will arrange delivery or collection as per your instruction.
Step Five – Our Accounts team will process your voucher and any outstanding monies. We will then refund any monies owed back to you.
